Overview:
Our client believes there is a massive opportunity to improve the way that organizations secure their cloud-based platforms. They have built amazing relationships with customers that love working with their team to understand and address their cybersecurity risks. Their team is focused on helping our customers solve these problems in a way that is pragmatic and does not capitalize on fear.
We are looking for someone to join our client as an AWS Security Engineer. As a member of the team, you will work with a broad array of customers to help them understand their cybersecurity risks and develop plans and roadmaps to address these risks in a way that is aligned with their business goals. You will also work in an advisory capacity to our internal Detection and Response Team to assist and advise us in identifying and responding to active security incidents in customer environments.
You will join a dedicated team who is passionate about cybersecurity, and will have a massive opportunity to steer the direction of the cloud security practice. You will be expected to be proactive in identifying issues and developing solutions, making other engineers and employees better, and learning from the expertise of those working alongside you.
Core Responsibilities:
- Communicate with prospective and existing clients to understand their security challenges and concerns.
- Lead and perform technical security assessments on client AWS environments.
- Develop an understanding of the business requirements and other motivating factors for clients, and develop tailored security guidance to meet those needs. “Just enable this setting” is typically not the right answer!
- Document and present findings and recommendations to clients in a professional manner.
- Maintain relationships with clients post-assessment in order to assist and advise as they continue to build and improve their security.
- Maintain competence in security trends, technologies, and practices through self-study and attendance of industry events.
- Conduct research and develop tools to automate tasks related to your areas of responsibility.
- Collaborate with and advise the Detection and Response Team to assist with incident response and remediation efforts and to ensure they are capable of detecting the latest and greatest offensive techniques used to target AWS environments.
- Train and mentor other employees to build overall capacity and capability.
- Author blog posts and create other content to educate customers and the broader security community.
- Operate with minimal supervision within the framework of assigned responsibilities, and recognize when escalation to management is needed.
Sampling of Desired Skills and Attributes:
- Experience designing, implementing, and monitoring AWS infrastructure and security solutions.
- Experience with investigating and responding to security incidents within AWS environments.
- Understanding and experience with common security control frameworks (NIST CSF, 800-53, CIS Benchmarks, etc.)
- Great communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Customer-focused mindset with a strong desire to educate others and provide delightful customer experiences.
- Ability to self-direct work, orient to action, and truly own the position in a quickly growing and changing environment.
- Ability to translate strategic business objectives into tactical actions.
- Comfort with building and refining processes on a growing team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years of security experience and a deep understanding of the cybersecurity industry.
- Prior experience with both designing and implementing security controls within complex AWS environments.
- Prior experience working with modern software engineering teams using technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, and other “serverless” (not the product) technologies.
